Party
season begins! Friday night we did a kid swap with Faith, she got to spend the night
at her cousin Annie’s house, and we got to have our awesome (as he calls
himself), three year old nephew. What a little champion, he took himself off to
bed when he got tired.
Saturday
was party day! It began at 1:30pm with an adventurous party in
the park, scooters, bikes, footy, a playground, and a lesson in handling of ducks
& geese by the twins, thanks boys! It was freezing…& starting to rain.
A quick trip
to the bro’s house was in order to organise what was to happen with the kid swap.
We had
to be in another town at the hotel for Opa’s 70th by 6pm , especially being the hosts. We
had to get a move on!
On our
way to make a quick stop at home, it occurred to me that I had completely
forgotten to organise a cake! What was I going to do? I stopped at the local
supermarket, but they had nothing that satisfied me, so I called the hotel
& asked if they could help with a cake, they mentioned small cakes, but
went on to say they would be able to sort it out. What a relief!
I
started feeling really sick, weak & nauseated…just as well we stopped at
home, I started throwing up. Still feeling low, we leave home on our way to the
party & realise we haven’t got candles, so we make another stop at a
different supermarket. I race inside desperately looking for candles, I couldn’t
find them…I ask one of the workers & wouldn’t you know it, they are right
at the back of the store. I take a note to tell them that they need to be moved
closer to the front, how ridiculous! I grab the candles of choice & turn to
walk to the register, and a small family catch my eye, I’m sure they look
familiar. It was my cousin & his family, I can’t just walk off & not
say hello, even though I’m running late by this stage, I turn back to see their
new little bubba, sweet & sound asleep in his pram., I reluctantly bid them
goodbye & rush back to the car.
We
arrive at the hotel after Opa & other’s were already there waiting. We
order our meals & the kid’s meals, while the kid’s are getting their faces
painted.
I
mention to Brian that I need to speak to someone about the cake. I found the
person I needed to speak to & she proceeds to show me small cakes for $5
each, I would need twenty to feed everyone…that would be $100! Forget it. So I
summons Brian to go to the supermarket & just grab anything. He finishes
his meal & heads off.
I get a
call to meet him in the car park…there he was with an undressed Pavlova, a
punnet of strawberries, whipped cream & chocolate topping & tells me to
make it in the car park! Not a chance! I take it inside & explain to the
kitchen staff what had happened & they kindly put it together for us.
Happy 70th Birthday Opa...
