My girls all run cross country with Little Athletics through
the winter season. 500 metres, 1500 metres, 2kms, & 3kms. The three older girls also made it in to their school’s
district cross country events, with one of them progressing through to the regional event, which she will be running this week.
At the regular Saturday morning cross country run, it was
great to meet Victoria’s current under 20 female cross country champion, Amy
Cashin – and wonderful timely advice she had to give to all of the kids during the
talk she gave to them prior to their warm up.
Amy represented Australia in the Under 20 Team at the recent World Championships held in Poland. She has won a number of Australian titles over 3000 metres and 2000 metres steeple chase.
The kids were all running at their peak performance after the inspirational words Amy shared with them about training, nerves and running.
She than ran 3kms with the children.

It was a wet 15 degree morning, and thankfully the rain held off while the kids were running. According to Amy, these were perfect cross country conditions, unlike running in the snow at -7 degree temperatures whilst she was in Poland.

Amy also encouraged the children to make sure they layer their clothing in cooler weather, and regardless of whether they feel hot or not to always put their layers on straight after running in order to not catch a cold. This resonated with all of the kids, and the Mums were thrilled.
It was a wonderful morning, the children all went away with wonderful inspiration & advice, and the parents were also able to take something away from meeting this amazing young lady.
